When Done Right, Blood Flow Restriction Training Is As Safe As Normal Exercise

CONCLUSION

In this national survey the authors obtained data from 105 facilities who used BFRT (KAATSU) with over 12,000 people over a wide range of ages from 20 yrs old to over 80 yrs old. Subjects ranged from healthy to having the following conditions: cerebrovascular diseases, orthopedic diseases, obesity, cardiac diseases, neuromuscular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory diseases. There have only been a small number of side effects which can be seen at the table to the right.

The authors therefore concluded:
“…KAATSU training is a safe and promising method for training in the field of sports and healthy persons, and can also be applied to persons with various kinds of physical condition including cerebrovascular diseases, orthopedic diseases, obesity, cardiac diseases, neuromuscular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory diseases.”
